An account of the author’s journey to a monastery in Soligny-la-Trappe in France. Being primarily travel notes and observations, the book gives the reader an opportunity to get acquainted with the Ruins of the Convent of the Chartreux, Forests of LePerche, City of Nantes, River Sevres, and other numerous most interesting parts of France. W.D. Fellowes describes the beauty of natural face of the country, its picturesque enchantment and Nature “in all her varied poetry, from the grand and terrible graces of savage sublimity, to the soft and playful loveliness of cultivated luxuriance… Under such impressions, and with such opportunities, it was scarcely possible to resist recording something of what I saw and felt; and if the publication of my hasty record be an error, it will be deemed by my friends, I hope, a pardonable one”.
