The only thing I ever knew about Scientology is that it was a powerful cult and to stay far away. Well, that and Tom Cruise and a number of other celebrities are/were members. Of course, anything that is dangerous is instantly intriguing, and this book promised to tell me how this super secret organization operated. While I have a better sense of Scientology's Sea Org now and what makes it so weird, I thought this book was poorly written. There is so much technical language, or better put, so many acronyms for strange Scientology places and violations... It dragged. I appreciate Jenna's wish to share her story for those who are Scientology survivors (if that is the right word) and the general public. Her sufferings at Scientology are pretty grim too. Going public with all this information must have taken tremendous courage and that is something I admire. I only wish her a happy and healthy life as she seems to be a kind hearted person.Nonetheless, this book doesn't make f
...or a "good read."

I admit that I don't know much about Scientology so I was interested in reading this book to learn more and I definitely did. There is a lot of Scientology lingo to navigate and though hard to keep track of I appreciated that the author used all of the terminology. It really kept me in the mindset that L. Ron Hubbard, or LRH as he's called in the book, had to go to a lot of work and had to have spent a ton of time creating Scientology. The amount of detail put into every aspect of a person's life was just mind-blowing. The biggest chunk of time was spent in Jenna's childhood. She has to have an excellent memory because she can describe things in her childhood far better than I could ever remember. But, then again, my childhood definitely wasn't anything like hers, so it's probably easier to forget. I did have a hard time keeping track of time though. She would describe things that in my mind took months or years, but only took weeks or months. I had to constantly flip back to previous chapters when years were mentioned to keep my bearings straight. I think that this is a good book to read if you're interested in learning more about Scientology because we learn about it as Jenna did since she grew up in Scientology.

I think this is an amazing book. I literally got chills reading. I felt like I was at the ranch myself. I wish somebody would make a movie based on this book. This was quite an experience reading this book
