Story: Too cool Blair's life has changed a lot in the past year. On the down side, her mother has divorced and found a new dorky boyfriend. On the plus side, the most popular girl in school and her best friend Serena van der Woodsen went off to boarding school, making Blair now the best in the class. But then things change, big time.

Characters: Blair, who wishes her life was a movie that she could direct. Nate, her boyfriend, who is questioning his relationship. Serena, whose mysterious past year at boarding school is influencing everyone else's lives indirectly and sometimes directly. And a whole cast of other characters to fill a teen television drama.

Language: The book is narrated by Gossip Girl, an anonymous writer on the net who everyone follows online. While most of the story is told from the perspective of the characters, it's Gossip Girl's rumours and sightings that spur the drama along.
