I enjoyed listening to this book. The reader was excellent and the topic truly engrossing - pun intended! I would classify it as interesting light non-fiction story telling along the lines of some John McPhee books, like Uncommon Carriers. This is perfect for those interested in medical history and gut health. It was a nice compliment to Brain Maker by David Perlmutter and The Good Gut by Erica & Justin Sonnenburg. A quick easy read, it was so entertaining that I plan to read other books by Mary Roach, including Stiff.

Everything you didn't need to know about what happens when the human body deals with food, told in such a way that makes you want to learn more. This book is funny, at times a little graphic, and unbelievably thorough, it lives up to the billing that it covers everything from smell of food before it hits your tongue to the smell of the waste the food later becomes. Funny and light, filled with stories that you never knew you wanted to know.
