Mr. Dooley in Peace and in War is a great novel describing the events which happen in Mr. Dooley's situated in the community of Bridgeport, which is not far from Chicago. Mr. Dooley who is Irish immigrant to the United States shares his experience and feelings with his neighbors, most of which are immigrants as well, who come to his saloon. Moreover, they discuss very intellectual topics such as, for example, the foreign policy of the US in Cuba, or the strangeness of American football. The book is a real discovery for those readers interested in the society in America at the turn of the 20th century and the hard life of immigrants who moved there searching for happiness and prosperity.
