“The only entrance apparent to the whole of the ziggurat was this building, no larger than an equipment shed, though its door was a seven-by-seven slab of stone that looked as smoothly polished as a mirror and was made of a mineral that not even Brigid, with her wealth of knowledge and perfect memory, could identify. The stone “door” had a single crack that zigged and zagged in a line across it, and the edges of that crack were the only imperfections in the slab.
Kane touched the surface, but he couldn’t make it move with every bit of his strength pushed into it. He looked to Grant, and the two men set their combined strength against the door. Nothing moved.
“We could try the four of...” Nathan started to speak.
Neekra stepped up, brushing Kane and Grant away from the door. Despite the bruise where her scales had been knocked off of her shoulder, her musculature was still grand, finely toned and powerful. She spread her hands against the flat stone and leaned against it.
