This was my first Robert Crais book, and it won't be my last. The writing, the characters and the storyline are all crisp, well developed, and kept me going from beginning to end. The K-9 aspect lends a fresh twist on a genre that can at times become dry and formulaic. The movement of the plot is believable and unpredictable, up to the last few pages, which was also pleasing. It definitely wasn't a Thriller that smacked me in the face, but the characters were definitely real people who you wanted to know, and keep on knowing, until the very end. I liked that.

This book was recommended to me by my father who likes crime books. I have a service dog and it is not often you read a book where the working dog belonging to the main character is depicted in a way that reads authentic and not campy. For its depiction of the working dog and handler relationship and the effects of PTSD on people and working dogs I give the book four stars. I can't rate the book with fiv
...e stars because I thought the whole mystery plot was too predictable.MoreLess
