The Amityville Horror

Genres: Nonfiction
This is the story of the Lutz family and their experience of an evil presence in their new dream home turned nightmare, an experience so horrifying that, after only a few short weeks, the family finally fled the house one night in terror, leaving all of their belongings behind, never to return. The best thing about this book is that it can appeal to readers on both sides of the fence when it comes to belief in the supernatural. If you are ready to believe that this is a true account of an actual haunting (which this book claims to be) then you will find the experiences of the Lutz family disturbing in a way that will stay with you long after you have finished reading the book. However, even if you believe that this book truly belongs in the horror fiction category, it is still possible to appreciate the way author Jay Anson has used the story of the Amytiville haunting to reflect a cultural era defined by the release of "The Exorcist" and its belief in the ever present threat of evil.

This book defines the horror genre in a way that many books do. Its spine-tingling storytelling is pure genius. Jay Anson was truly the master of all things paranormal. 10 stars. 2 thumbs way up!
