There is no direct evidence that he was ever born, and none that he ever died. This strange, mysterious, successful and vindictive historical figure appeared upon the stage and then?disappeared. As near as can be learned he was born somewhere on the Susquehanna, when the eighteenth century was quite young. No man knows when, or where.
