The Squirrel-Cage
The Squirrel-Cage is second novel written by Fisher Dorothy Canfield which was published for the first time in 1912. The story focuses on the description of life of Lydia Emery, who comes from an ordinary middle-class family. She is a young and charming lady who meets Paul Hollister, a beginning businessman and marries him. However, the main character does not love him but Daniel Rankin, who is a bit of rebel. The author of novel does a great job in showing the inner world and the feelings of the woman. The situation described in the book is pretty ordinary for many women at the beginning of the twentieth century so be prepared to dive into the life of American society of that time.
