To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han series

I started reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before about two and a half years ago. I got about fifty pages into it, and hated it. The voice sounded way to young and I did not care about the plot. Then, about two weeks ago, I decided to pick up this series again. I then proceeded to read the rest of this wonderful and adorable series in about a week. The To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy was an enjoyable trilogy filled with romance, family, and friendship.

Lara Jean has never had a boyfriend, though she has been in love many times. When she likes someone, she simply writes a letter to them and never sends it. Then one day, all of her letters get sent out to the boys she once loved.

The characters were my favorite part of this series. The main character, Lara Jean, was such a cute and quirky character that was so refreshing to read about. She also went through a nice character development in this series. She matured into a character that isn’t completely dependent on her sisters, friends, and Peter, while still remaining the same “quirky in a cute way” type of character.

Lara Jean had a really nice relationship with her family (which is something we don’t see in to many Young Adult books). She loved her family, but had very realistic conversations with her sisters and dad. I also loved how big of a part her family had in her life.

All of Lara Jean’s friends and peers were well developed and realistic. I loved her friendship with Chris, and how unlikely it was (but it still totally worked). Lucas was a character that wasn’t in very many scenes, but all of his conversations with Lara Jean were funny and friendly. Genevieve was a character that I liked to read about at first, but by the second book, I was sick of her drama. I was very happy that she wasn’t a large part of the third book.

The three potential love interests in this series were Peter, Josh, and John. Peter, was the main love interest, and I really liked him. It was cool how he and Lara Jean got together, and again the unlikely partnership they had. Their relationship was fun and cute. Josh was really only a main character in the first book, and even then I wanted to learn more about him. It was also a little confusing about what he actually wanted and who he actually liked. John was a character that wasn’t introduced until the second book. I liked him, but he was never really a love interest as much as Jenny Han pushed him.

I didn’t love the end of any of the three books. They all ended the same exact way, and I was weary of it by the Always And Forever Lara Jean.

I absolutely loved the writing in this series. It was told in first person and from the point of view of Lara Jean. Like I mentioned earlier, I felt that the writing was to naive the first time I picked up this series. However, this read, I liked the naivety of the voice.

Overall I thought the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy was a romantic series that I would recommend to anyone looking for some contemporary books. The characters, relationships, and writing were all cute and fun to read. Have you read any of the books in this series? Did you like it? Who were your favorite characters? I would love to know.
